I am not feeling so well today.
Here are a ton of unique road signs that Donald Knuth and his wife found around Ohio in the summer of 2003. Old Donny is also trying to figure out a name for that thing where your computer just won’t cooperate. I like “irritable bit syndrome.” It’s a nerd joke.
I think nerd jokes are cool when I understand them… which is probably why they suck most of the time. Also, they are unpopular with all women.
Do you know if Abe Vigoda is alive?
That’s all for now, it’s Pepto time.

Rats can eat their own poop. I find this fact infuriating. Normally to beat a varmint you can take away it’s source of food, but not with rats. Rats can just go out drinking one night, then the next morning they have a feast.
Also: Why Dogs Eat Poop. Despite this one-page article being written by two PhD’s, they completely fail to answer the question. Still educational.

As usual, the other day while I was driving to work my mind was on vacation.
I noticed the cars flowing along the highway in the early morning. I was among them, looking forward at the red tail lights as we moved through a bend. We all saw across the median, the white dots flowing past us in the opposing vein. Then I thought: in cars we are like blood cells in a juggernaut, a huge beast bent on creation, destruction, or something we can’t comprehend. We oxygenate at home, storing energy, patience and perspective (food, rest, etc.) that we will carry along with us. We deoxygenate at work, burning energy efficiently to drive forward the being that is our larger society.
It’s just an analogy, I know, but what if there is something to it? We’ve gone from being kings, the only known sentient beings in the universe, to organizing into the atomic particles of a larger consciousness. Maybe our very concepts of consciousness or intelligence are incredibly simple compared to that of the larger system. No, you say? Do you think a blood cell realizes it is part of a human body? Do you think a skin cell does? What about a mosquito, does it understand it’s role in the food chain? These particles are not even capable of “understanding” the world that you and i live in… so how could we ever fathom the intention or meaning of the societal being that we course through?

Well, I start the MBA program next week. I wanted to go over some statistics stuff since I “waived” the stat class (way easier than testing out). I found a quick overview of the basics here. I remember the statistics courses in college being way harder. It was probably a combination of taking the nerd stat classes and having the party habits of a marketing major. (If you have a major in marketing you should have a sense of humor. Since that statement is joke, it is not offensive to you by the transitive property.) But it’s cool, I bet business statistics is easier than the statistics I remember. Most the business students I knew in school applied their ingenuity outside the classroom… like this guy:

I’m getting pumped for my annual snowboarding trip. This year two groups of people that I’ve gone with in the past are converging in Utah. It’s going to be a bloodbath. Steve is looking at an outdoor camera we can mount on our heads. Steve versus bag.
Anyway I am researching outdoor cameras and good video editing software for my laptop. I’m using Windows Vista for now, even though it has blue screened on me. Ubuntu just isn’t ready for the mind-blower that is my Costco laptop. Anyway the front-runner for video editing is Adobe Premier Elements. Apparently it’s the balls. Now I just have to see if I can find a “discount” version.

I was looking up another famous nat when I came across Nat Friedman’s page. He seems like a weird dude but I like his drawings page.
